The RWTH Aachen University (RWTH), established in 1870, is divided into 9 faculties. Approximately 30,000 students are enrolled in 92 courses of study. The Institute for Energy Efficient Buildings and Indoor Climate that will carry out the work within the project is part of the E.ON Energy Research Centre. The concept of the centre includes besides research on technical possibilities that guarantee a sustainable supply of energy a detailed analysis of social and economic aspects of energy supply. To the main energy research competencies of the institute belong the energy generation, storages, distribution and monitoring in buildings and communities always combined with the aspects of person's thermal comfort. The institute has excellent facilities of measuring and analysis methods for energy systems and comfort measurements. The institute is involved in teaching and supervising engineering students in the field of energy systems and energy industry as well as in the use of renewable energy sources.
